Gasherbrum II Expedition
Gasherbrum II, often known as K4, is the thirteenth-highest mountain on Earth and is situated on the Pakistan-occupied Kashmir-China border. Gasherbrum II is the third-highest summit in the Karakoram Range’s Gasherbrum massif.
At the end of one of the world’s most renowned mountain treks, at the entrance of the Baltoro Glacier, is the heaviest and most distant cluster of high peaks. The thirteenth-highest mountain in the world, Gasherbrum II is one of the five peaks that make up the wider Gasherbrum range, two of which soar above 8,000 metres. She is universally regarded as one of the most straightforward and approachable of the fourteen, and climbers on her standard route, if adequately equipped and resourced, have respectable summit success rates during bad weather. She is obviously an 8000er, and as such repels scores of climbers annually. After a brief weather window opened near the end of the season in 2004, 38 climbers of various nationalities scaled her peak.
The preferred path is the SW ridge. A spur that is largely well-defined and reasonably free of objective threats. Despite this, numerous climbers have perished on this route owing to these factors, as recorded by history. If you want to climb G2, you’ll need exceptional stamina, ferocious determination, and the capacity to endure “expedition downtime” – boredom, apathy, lethargy, and cold, lonely nights on the glacier.
