Broad Peak Expedition
The Broad Peak is the fourth highest peak in Pakistan and the third highest in the Karakoram Range. The summit can be found on the westernmost portion of the Baltoro glacier. The peak, despite its enormous height of 8,047 metres (26,400 feet), managed to remain hidden from the serious attention of mountaineers for a significant portion of its existence. The Pakistani survey record identifies it as PK 23/52 A Broad Peak. This information comes from the record. The locals gave it the name “Falchan Brak,” which literally translates to “Broad Peak,” because of its broad summit. This stunning peak in Pakistan was the target of dozens of unsuccessful missions from countries all over the world. However, on June 9, 1957, the Austrian Karakoram Expedition was successful in climbing to the summit of the mountain for the first time.
