Muztagh Ata Expedition
Muztagh Ata means “Father of Ice Mountains” in the local Kazakh and Uigur dialects, both of which are Turkish. The Muztagh Ata massif is located in the Kunlun Shan range on the high plateau in Western China, where nomadic herders line and tend to their wandering flocks.
It is a big mountain range with two summits, one measuring 7,546 metres and the other 7,130 metres. The two locations are separated by 2 kilometres. This itinerary provides the opportunity to ascend both peaks from the same Muztagh Ata base camp. According to the professional level of the participants, the major peak takes between 14 and 20 days to reach. It is the second-highest mountain in this range and the easiest summit above 7,500 metres in the world. Trekking to Base Camp prepares us for the ascent and allows us to experience the diversity of the terrain and its inhabitants.
Mustagh Ata is one of the fifty tallest mountains on the planet and is situated in a remote area on the western border of China’s Xinjiang Province. The mountain is approached by traversing the Khunjerab Pass. With the usual route along the gently sloping southwest slopes, the peak poses few technical challenges; however, favourable weather conditions and an effective acclimatisation programme are essential for success. It is not only a mountaineering trip, but also an epic journey through Central Asia, which includes a stop in Kashgar. This tour is ideal for people who wish to test themselves at high altitude. Muztagh Ata Expedition is a perfect preparation to prepare yourself for other big Himalayan and karakoram mountains.
