Bainta Brakk-Ogre-Latok expedition
Bainta Brakk/Ogre/Latok expedition is a mountaineering journey. Bainta Brakk is a mountain also knows as the Ogre and Latok.
Standing high at 7,285 meters high in a sub range of the Karakorum called the Panmah Muztagh is located in the Gilgit-Baltistan region of Pakistan. Bainta Brakk has gained popularity for being one of the difficult peaks to climb. On the other hand, the Latok is a band of stagy, rocky peaks to the east of the Baintha Brakk or Ogre peaks.
These rocky peaks are extremely hard to summit and you can seduce this from the fact that the Ogre was first summited in 1977 and its second summit occurred 24 years after the first summit. On the other hand, Latock was first summited by a team of Japanese climbers in 1979. Most of the attempts to these peaks have remained unsuccessful.
Our Bainta Brakk-Ogre-Latok expedition starts from Islamabad. We take a mountain view flight to Skardu and from Skardu drive to Askole. Askole is the last village of the shigarar valley. Three days of hiking will take you from the village of Askole to the base camp of Ogre and Latok Peaks. The base camp at 4,200m is lush and abundant in fresh water, shaped like a soccer ball. The Panmah Glacier provides access to the Latok summits. Latok-I (7,145m), Latok-II (7108m), Latok-III (6,940m), Latok-IV (6,456m), and Latok-IV SE are (6450m).
Other adjacent summits include Baintha Brakk SE (6,960m), Choktoi (6,166m), Lakpila Brakk (5500m), Spaldang (5,560m), and Biacherahi Towers (5560m) (5900m).
Biafo Glacier is the shortest accessible path to Ogre peaks. It is stated that the Ho Bluk, located on the right bank of the Biafo Glacier, is the highest pasture. The atmosphere here is pleasant. The summits of Latok provide both ice and rock climbing.
Our Bainta Brakk-Ogre-Latok expedition start and finish in Islamabad.
